These are the tales of eight brave Duke Engage students who dared to venture to the far off land of PDX, a city so futuristic and liberal (and so full of awkward naked statues whose meanings we can only attempt to interpret) that we can only refer to it by its airport’s initials. The eight of us are all at different environment-focused non-profits (except that one guy at the government) learning the ins-and-outs of how Portland is combating urban sprawl, river movements (yes, one of us is going to be physically MOVING rivers), invasive species, overdevelopment of natural areas, and other issues! We’ll also be chronicling our six different volunteer projects (about 18 hours) to offset some of our carbon emissions so stay tuned to hear about how we rip out concrete with our bare hands. Lastly, we’ll be traveling around Oregon to the Coast, the waterfalls, and extinct volcanos! Oh, also watch (“read”) as Ting-Ting crumbles and disappears into nothing as she survives solely on lettuce for 8 entire weeks.
